Knitting. Best increase?

The pattern says to increase 1 st at the end of the row. I'm a novice, and all the increases I know are at most made in 2nd stitch from last.

What increase would you recommend for an end-of-row increase? I normally use a make-one-left or M1R.

Is there a way to increase after the last stitch, apart from a cast-on?

Go ahead and make the increase on the 2nd from the end . It won't make much difference except when you stitch pieces together it will make the end look better .

I agree, do your M1 between the first and second stitches, it will be invisible and give you a good edge to seam. Otherwise you could do a knit front and back, but I've never cared for the purl look of that increase's second stitch.
