The best possible available contrast to Oedipus Rex as a tragic hero is the modern day tragic hero- Willy Loman from Death of a Salesman.
You'll find plenty of information on the internet comparing the two.
Willy, although semingly pathetic, is a tragic in the modern day sense. He sacrifices his life for the greater good of his insurance money playing off his bills, after finally falling under the pressure of providing effectively for his family under the pressured of the consumeristic society which he lives in.
