I know exactly what you mean I hated my grey/silver fillings and I got my dentist to replace them with white ones, I had to pay for them privately but it was well worth it. I am not sure how much it cost now, but I chipped a filling recently and I had it replaced and it cost £78 for a new white one.

I know people say that white ones don't last as long in back teeth, but I had mine changed over 20 years ago and other than one falling out 12 years ago and the one I recently chipped I have had no problems.

    Good luck

Fillings are silver not grey by the way :)

Also, yes you can have them changed, although there are a few reasons you may not want to have them,

For a start, they cost, as they aren't on te NHS

and they don't last aslong as other fillings.

Also, if you eat or drink alot of foods that can stain your teeth {like i do} it will make your white filling look like a freckle.

I have a white filling on one of my front teeth, as a kid i never looked after them, so ye.. and even if i brush them like mad now, you can still see that it is REALLY noticeable. -.-

Anyways, they still look better than silver fillings lol

Of course it is. There is an excellent variety of dental cosmetic amalgams that can be coloured precisely to match your teeth. The process takes a little longer than filling with silver amalgam and they cost a packet - but worth it I feel if you have the money.

Yes, you can. Talk with your dentist at your next 6 month checkup. There are benefits to having an amalgam or silver filling. Your dentist can review these and help you decide on how to proceed. Good luck!

  • You can, but you will have to pay for them and as they are softer than amalgam ones, then depending on their size, white filling may need to be replaced if they wear away.

Yes, but bear in mind white fillings are not done on the NHS so they are charged at private rates.

I believe they are also not suitable if the cavity is very large.

Yeah, I got told that it was an option. But mine cost £70 for teeth where they didnt need to take a filling out, so it could be quite costly.

I did a few months ago. I never really noticed the silver ones. But after they were gone wow! The white ones makes my mouth look flawless ;-).
