Does a man's weight affect his fertility?
My fiance and I have been ttc for over a year now. Ive done everything from charting to pee sticks and have missed nothing in between. I have a 14 year old daughter so i know that i am fertile. or was. My fiance on the other hand has no children but states he had gotten someone preg when he was 18. We are both in our early 30's. His Dr recently told him he needs to lose 30-40lbs and it is affecting his health n blood pressure. I read some where that being over weight could affect a man's fertility. Is this true and does it affect it significantly????

It can - weight impacts your hormone levels so in a man it impacts testosterone which impacts sperm count. It is most dramatically seen in men that are obese but at 30 - 40 lbs overweight, your fiance may not be seeing such a negative impact. He will also want to drop the pounds to get his blood pressure under control because blood pressure meds can dramatically lessen sperm counts.
From personal experience, my husband was also about 40lbs overweight. He lost about 25 lbs quickly through healthy diet and exercise. We were doing IUI's at the time and saw a dramatic increase in his sperm count. He went from slightly below normal to the higher end of normal.
You should both see your doctors to discuss your fertility.
