Is there a trick to hitting a 2 iron?
I have been playing for 15 years and I can hit all my irons fairly well but my #2 is killing me. When I hit, it feels as if the club twist in my hands and the ball slices or hooks real bad, any ideas? Grips are good
Getting loft is not why I hit my #2. I want distance and control coming off a high tee box or a above the flag lie. All my iron are blades and I enjoy hitting them why would I go to a hybrid just cause I am having issuses with my #2.

i like cg-1s point and also GRiller too. but many times its not the club. another thing you should do with any longer club is this 4iron to 3 wood always swing at the inside lower rear corner of the ball . when the ball is laying on the grass with a longer club most of the time your just not hitting the sweet spot. and the longer club does sit a bit flatter.. so a half inch left or right on the club makes for poor contact.. aiming at a smaller piece of the ball will get you closer.. Again try hitting the the back lower inside corner of the ball and don't forget your follow threw to a point a foot or so in front of the ball, something to try with all of your longer clubs.

Boomrat the very fact that the club is twisting on contact should tell you that you are hitting the ball off centre on the club face. Usually the fact that the player is trying to help the ball into the air will result in a mishit and you are probably in the same boat. Forget about hitting a high two iron shot and just accept what will happen if you make a normal controlled swing through the ball. The loft and spin will control the flight for you. The secret to good shots is solid contact so don't give up just let your swing work for you. Easier said than done as you know the two iron is a difficult one to contend with and even God can't hit a one iron. Good luck

I have the same kinds of issues with my 2 iron. It is just a very tough club to hit for the average golfer due to the fact that is an iron and there is very little loft on it, usually 18 or 19 degrees. A lot of pro's don't even carry them anymore with the emergence of the hybrid clubs. I personally hit my 5 wood of the deck on longer shots, but a hybrid may be the way to go.

The shaft is long, and the club face is steeper. You will need to hit it the same way as your three but give it a little more respect. Try chok up on the grip and hit it first, then move back gradually until you hold the club normally while hitting each ball until you're comfortable with it.
Well, I used to hit 1 and 2 because I can't hit any woods for five years. Now, I can hit woods and the easiest thing is replacing your 2 iron with 5 wood.
Tiger does.

Two iron is hard to hit simply because the head is heavy and if you use steel shaft it gets heavier (so your better use graphite shaft) The Loft on 2 iron is simply not a problem, many pros still use 2 iron for teeing off on windy condition. Hybrid are high launch clubs, it's not useful on windy condition. Remember Tiger Woods on British Open 2 years ago?
Now about twisting, yes I used to have this problem with my driver. It's because I hit it down and not through it. Where do you place the ball in your stance when hitting 2 iron? For me it's almost like hitting Fairway Wood when using 2 iron.

The club twisting in your hands is definitely a bad sign. The 1st thing that tells me is that the lie angle needs to be checked. If A: your swing has changed over time or B: the club specs have moved over time then you can be making your normal swing and have very jarring impact as either the heel or toe catches the ground 1st. Have this club put on a lie board at a local fitter and make sure your lie angle is OK.
Let me know if that solves it
