ps3 problem or tv problem?.....?

i just got a ps3 and we took it to my friend's house cuz he has hd tv and everything worked...

when i took it to my house, i tried it after 1 day on my trinitron sony tv... it didn't work???? is it tv's problem? like when i took it to my house, it can barely sense me when i tried to turn it on.. also, there's no audio or video or anything when i turn it on... i plug in everything alright..i got this tv 7 years ago... so would it be the tv or something else? what am i doing wrong?

Update:

points for you guys or anyone that can tell me how to swtich the settings?...

i mean it doesn't show anything when i started ps3... did i have to switch stuff at his house since nothing is on the screen for mine?

Did you switch it to HDTV for his TV? Did you switch it back for your TV? Not to sound stupid but that just seems like the easiest thing to try. I think you hold the power for like 3-5 seconds after turning it on, you'll hear a little beep, and it will be back to the original settings. As to it not sensing you when you try to turn it on though that would have nothing to do with the TV. Either the touch sensor has a problem or you're not giving off enough body heat.

Just to be sure, make some effort to test it with another TV (maybe your friend's TV if you don't have another TV at home) and find out. I had a problem with my PS3 before. It was pixelizing. But I made sure first that it's the PS3. Then I called Sony and they arranged me fpr replacement right away. Within a week, I had a new PS3.
