Hooking up holley electric choke?
I have a 66 mustang, and I have a holley streetavenger carb double pumper with electric choke. Question is how do I wire it? It's already grounded, I was told to hook the positive wire when it only shows twelve volts. Where do I tap into that at and what size wire should I run? pictures would help as well. thanks

The electric choke should be connected to a power source that is "ON" only when the key is in the "ON" position. You should be able to connect the positive wire into a 12 volt source in the fuse block. Use a test light to make sure that the power is off when the key is off. If the choke receives constant power it will drain the battery when the key is shut off, and might burn up the choke. The site below suggests tapping into the power supply wire of the windshield wipers (since they will only run when the key is on), or the IGN terminal on the fuse block. Turning the key to the ACCY position might also feed power to the choke, so if you're gonna listen to the radio when the car is off, remember.....you're choke is getting power at the same time.
I know, I know........ it's a chevy oriented site, but you'll have to live with it....... It's the only one I could find with a picture that could help you out. I would use the same size wire that is used for the ground wire on the choke. 14 or 16 gauge??

the choke is suppose to close up after about 30 minutes of setting, you may have to adjust on it some to get it right,if you have 12 volts going to it when the ignition is on then you got it wired right, just make sure the voltage is not staying on it when the key is off,if it is that will hold it open and cause that problem, check the spring tension and see if its working right,it should spring back when its cold to the closed position,i think its in the adjustment of it on that one, good luck with it ,it can take some time to get those set just right,

wire it to anything that's got 12 volts to it when the key is in the on position ,take a test light and check the wires under the hood, a 14 gage wire will handle the choke real easy,it should have came with choke kit to wire it with if you bought it new,i think hs is wired to the alternator wire that shows hot when the key is on ,good luck.
