Pug growls and snaps at times while sleeping?

My pug is almost a year old, recently she started snapping in her sleep like she was going to attack whoever was near her, and growling. If startled, or if anything near her moves during the night, at times she will do this, has anyone seen this kind of behavior before? She does not do it while awake, and it is not a play bite or growl it is ferocious different than her awake play.

Update:

I though it was of concern as one night she did attack my partner with her eyes closed, he pushed her away, she came back for more, until he hollered again and put her down on the floor, maybe sleeping in bed is not a good idea.

I have a one year old dog that does this from time to time. She also moves her legs like she is running. I don't think it is anything to worry. I just chalk it up to the dog dreaming (can they do that) or something. Dog are like people sometimes they just do odd things.

Our pug used to yip and paddle his legs like he was chasing something in his sleep. I've always wondered what he was dreaming about. It seems to be fairly common behavior.

Wake her up gently by saying in your sweet/high voice that she's a good girl. My dog does the same thing -- I think she has nightmares. She's always really affectionate when I wake her up this way, as if I've 'saved' her :)

    Yeah,so?

    It's DREAMING!

As all dogs do. No big deal. I saw a dog rise up & howl while asleep-it was hilarious! We laughed,he woke up & was thoroughly embarrassed.

If she is really asleep, she is dreaming.

    Lots of dogs do this.
