It depends on what type of person the person who told you is, and what type of person it is about.
If someone with a history of lying told me I would think that he or she dislikes the one it is about and just lied to me.
If the person does not lie ever. I would think that he or she was serious.
Honestly though I would not tell anyone that they told me. If they asked who said I would just say that I have heard it around. I am the type of person who always sticks to a word. And will never say anything of anyone that I am not supposed to. Even if I was down at gunpoint and they said they would let me go if I told. I guess I would be dying.
But usually it says that the person is afraid of the person that it is about and they do not want them to know they told because they are afraid they are going to get hurt. Or that the other person will say something terrible about them to everyone.
Hmm. Mortal people work in very odd ways. They are not mysterious and are definitely not good at keeping secrets.

Well it depends what it is they tell you and who the person is.
Unfortunately people are jealous and if the information damages the relationship you have with the person then I'd be very suss and wouldn't believe it. You know, "ABC said this about you" kinda crap. Now if it was something like "did you know that ABC split up from her bf" then I could being told so I know to go talk to my friend but if the person is not a trusted friend they could be being a malicious cow!

I agree with Maple. Plus I won't say that to a friend, I'll tell them myself

1) I tell them to stop cause I don't want to hear it
2) It tells me they aren't a great friend
3) It makes me wonder what they say to other people about me and tell them not to say..but only ever so briefly because I could give a fk less about that kind of mickey mouse bs... :-)

I'd think they were just being malicious & rude. I probably wouldn't believe them unless I heard it from a more reliable source, cause they were more than likely just spreading rumors.

It says that they are probably doing (or would do) the same thing to me, and that they are not to be trusted.
