Poll: Do you think that people are forgetting the purpose of Yahoo! Answers?

I have come to find that many people are discriminating against other people's questions based on their age, race, and sex. It gets very tiresome having people on Yahoo! Answers telling the ask-ers that they are too "young, preppy, dumb, etc". I particularly hate the group of people who discriminate against the children on this website, trying to sound witty and attempt (and sometimes succeed) to out-smart them. I have come to find that Yahoo! Answers is full of bullying and prejudice people. In my opinion, Yahoo! Answers is supposed to be a site where people of all shapes and sizes as well as religion and ethnicity can help each other and share each others opinions, not people that constantly fight and bicker!

Does anyone agree with me? If not, then why? I would love to hear your opinion. But please don't try to tear me down or leave nasty comments. If you do, well, I guess all I can say is, good job, you just told off a 13 year old!

As for the many kind people on this website ( I know there is a lot), keep up the good work!

I hope this doesn't offend anyone. If you find this offensive, let me know!

Update:

Lidybeff, I in no means meant to come accross as sexual, seductive or anything else you just accused me of trying to be. The picture of the woman on my avatar is on a surfboard. And since I love surfing and enjoy art, I felt that this photo would be appropriate for my avatar. As for my name, "The Forbidden Fruit", it comes from the bible. My parents are doing a fine job raising me, so don't you worry.

welcome to the internet...bullying grounds for all. people are as people do, to paraphrase forest gump's momma. chat rooms were originally for stated topics, but are often dens for cyber-predators. it is a reflection of our society at it's truest...when they think no one can see them.

you seem very astute for a 13 year old, and you may well be correct, however the internet is still evolving into the monster it was destined to become: the TV's replacement.

as for being offensive...there will always be someone who won't like what you've said.

I don't know about everyone else, but if I find a question to be racist, ethnocentric or bigoted against a religious or sexual preference, I tend to ignore it. Two points is not worth my dignity. I have found that it is not just young teens who ask such questions. But a large portion of annoying and blatantly stupid questions are. (When I say blatantly stupid, I am NOT referring to those who are asking questions that are intended to be humorous or clever. I'm referring to those asking "am I pretty" "which girl is prettier" "i had sex, could I be pregnant" "why can't I have a $3,000 sweet sixteen, does my mom hate me" I don't think Answers is a forum for showcasing ignorance, selfishness, and downright stupidity. It's supposed to be a place for real questions, as well as a friendly and fun environment.

If there are some people who are constantly being berated for being a "stupid teen" generally I've found it's because they are behaving like one. That's not to say all teens are stupid. But I have had answers to some of my own humorous questions by young girls who think I'm the devil incarnate.

As for the fighting and bickering.. take a look at the world around you...there is fighting and bickering everywhere...Yahoo isn't going to be any different.

I feel that the diversity is what makes it interesting. It's fairly equal opportunity, it doesn't matter if you are 13 or 80, if you ask a stupid question or make an inflammatory comment, people are going to tell you so. You don't really want to be babied do you ?

Also if you are 13 years old, do your parents approve of you putting on a seductive image of a grown woman for your Avatar ? AND calling yourself "The Forbidden Fruit" !

If you were my child that avatar would mean a ban from the computer !.

I do my best to give any one person the best advice I can give. I will admit at times I have fallen for the trap and said things that people don't want to hear. But then I realized that there is point in doing that. I try to never be judgemental or negative, for there is to much of that in the world already. But like Marty said, on sites like this your going to run across all types of people from all walks of life. So for the sake of your peace of mind its usually just better to ignore them.

You seem to forget that Yahoo! Answers is world wide, so people who are not very familiar with English are going to state their questions or answers poorly (with misspellings, and improper use) - it is forgivable. I think that everyone who graduates high school should be given this test you mention. If they can't pass it, they can't graduate. BTW - your # 3 has a misspelled word....did you take your test???

everything that you described about what is wrong about yahoo is exactly what yahoo is all about!

its always been a place full of idiots. it always will be. what you described about yahoo "supoosed" to be like is an idealistic utopia that even YA knew would never happen. they EXPECTED dysfunction. after all that IS why there is a report abuse button. specificaly for when the place messes up

I wouldn't get too upset about anything that goes on here. Just ignore stuff that offends you. If it's not fun, then do something else.

  • Actually you made some pretty good points... Koodoes to you!

People on Y!A are just like people in real life.

Since most of us are people and not computers (some trolls excepted), I don't know why we would honestly expect Y!A to be any better.

This happens everywhere you go. It's not exclusive to Y!A. There are just as many assholes in real life.
