Not all gay guys talk that way. You just notice them more because all the gay guys who DON'T act that way you pass off as just another straight guy. There are a lot of "tough" guys you walk past every day who are gay even if you don't realize it.

    Gay Guys Talking

There's a "gay culture" which is older than you. What you are talking about generally is considered camp, or high camp. There are a few who carry this on into their everyday life. Years ago it was explained to me that these "really nelly" guys do it to make a statement about who they are and that they really don't give a damn whether you like it or not. The "statement" is SO outrageous, that most people will just back away from them rather than confronting them. (Sort of like putting on a crazy act to scare people off). After so long, it becomes part of their personality. I've never met one yet, that couldn't, and didn't have serious moments as well when the act was dropped to some extent.

Str8s have it also. The super butch auto mechanic, or the really dizzy acting blond. They are all real people under the facade.

I don' know about full out valley girl but I noticed the majority of gay guys I've come across have some degree femininity in their voices. Well, not femininity, but it's just something "off" about their voices compared to straight guys I hang out with or come across. Very subtle most of the time, to point that they think it's no difference but it's there. It's in my voice also, despite trying hard to minimize it. Anyways, there are a lot of gay guys who try to fit in by becoming "thuper gay". There are gays that come out of the closet and go way far into gay culture and pride, then later mellow out. He maybe just trying to "find himself".

Only a small percentage of gay men talk feminine and it is usually an act to appear more girly. They can talk like a man if they want to. Most of the gay men I know are not outwardly gay at all, but just normal men. Where are you hanging out anyway?

You are talking about a stereotype. Most of the gays guys that I have known appear quite straight. It is only a minority that tend to speak in a softer and more expressive voice.

You have no idea how many gay guys that you have met in public and would never guess that they are gay.

You don't get around much do you?

Look up a Shad Smith video, tell me if he talks like a girl.

Better yet, ask him to his face, can I watch? That would be funny.

i have the deepest voice in probably all my classes - and i'm gay. didn't your parents ever tell you everyone is different? this is the same concept, some guys just have high pitched voices.

Sometimes it annoys me, but sometimes it just fits the person. You know what I mean? I don't know why some do. I met these 2 really awesome gay men at work one day that were sooo masculine. It was crazy. They were really nice, but really muscular, could definitely beat somebody down. I thought it was neat because they didn't fit the stereotype.
