how do you drain the transmission of a 2002 grand caravan?
I have a 2002 grand caravan and my husband cant find where to drain the transmission. He said he has drained older model but cant find the drain for this one
my husband took of the speed censor for the transmission off and there was metal flakes all over it...the transmission just got flushed out at the dealer last month, now it has all kinds of problems.
...and it ran fine before it was flushed

you have to drop the pan off to one side to drain the fluid all out of it,its kind of tricky to do but if done right you wont loose a drop on the floor, unfortunately having one flushed out at high mileage sometimes will create more problems than it will cure, you can usually clean the speed sensors off and sometimes they will work again, now you may be faced with later on rebuilding the transmission in it,this happens and there's nothing that can be done about it,i never recommend having one flushed out because of this,9 times out of 10 it will create more problems than you originally had to start with, good luck on it i got a feeling your going to need it.

On your vehicle the transmission pan needs to be removed to drain the transmission. There is no drain plug or port for this. The gasket is ATF compatable RTV silicone. Once the pan is off you can then access the filter and pan magnet. This will take about 6Qts of fluid to fill when you put the pan back on.

"if" you haven't changed the tranny fluid for over 100,000 miles, you should not have changed the fluid for mechanical reasons. However if your caravan does not have a "pan" then they have adopted a drain plug for removal, you need to acquire a auto manual and look at the specs, this is where you will find where the drain plug is.

You have to take the entire transmission pan off and replace the gasket afterwards. It shouldn't be too hard; just make sure you loosen and tighten the bolts in the correct order.
