Help! Fruit flys have taken over! How can I get them gone!?

My mother in law brought us over a bunch of bananas, only now we find it was home to a colony of fruit flys! We literally have hundreds and hundreds of them now. There is no food, no standing water, and fans blowing so they cant land, but still they breed! Anyone have any helpful practical sure-bet way of eliminating these pests!? We have small children just crawling, so I am adverse to chemical treatments!

Get some vinegar or wine, pour it in a wide bowl or glass, add some detergent to it and let Nature take her course.

Collect empty wine bottles with corks or lids. Pour about a 1-inch of beer into a wine bottle and set it out beyond the kids reach. Wait a for the fruit flies to be attracted to the beer. Once there are a bunch of fruit flies in the bottle, carefully place the cork in the bottle without disturbing the fruit flies then dispose. Keep repeating until the fruit flies are gone. It takes a little patience, but I have had success in the past.
