Time change - how to handle on payroll?

This is for CA.

Do we pay the "extra" hour on a graveyard shift that clocks in at 10 p.m. then changes the time at 3 a.m. to 2 a.m. then clocks out at 6 a.m. On the electronic time clock only the 8 hours between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. are counted, yet in reality the person worked 9 hrs.

P.S. My company usually pays for the extra hour... but how do other payroll dept. in CA handle this?

You must pay for the time worked, now that the clock says. They worked for 9 hours, they get paid for 9 hours.
