Info On How To Find Who Owns A Domain Name/URL ?

Hey I want to know if their is a way I can find out what site owns a URl. The URL/Domanin Name I want is taken but its used for a site that is down. Is their a way I can find out how long it has until I can buy it and maybe more info on who owns it. Thanks!!

    try http://www.whois.net/ hope it helps

    If the domain name exists, then (1) go to http://www.google.com/ and search on the keyword "whois" and choose one of the results then go to it and enter the domain name... The resulting answer will MOST LIKELY give you the name and perhaps the mailing address of the registered owner of the domain.

    HOWEVER...if you suspect the domain doesn't exist and you're just testing the waters for a name for yourself, just please note! Do NOT choose the search result for the company listed as Network Solutions! If you test a new name through them, and if you possibly want it, they will then put a lock on it with the hopes that you will register it through THEM, at a higher price than you would have to pay to register it elsewhere! (Chumps!)

    Run a WHOIS query. If you have linux you can use network tools whois look up.

    Else you can use a site like http://www.whois.net/
