Can someone explain why people voted yes on Prop 8? ?

I've heard mostly the detractors, and nothing from the proponents. Since it passed, they must have reasons. What are the reasons for banning gay marriages? Lets keep the debate focused on the issues.

Prop 8 was passed in response to the piss poor ruling made by the California Supreme Court when 4 judges took it upon themselves to overturn the law voted on by millions of us Californians. Now it's a Constitutional Amendment that these 4 idiots can't touch. The issue is simply this, WE decided that marriage is between 1 man and 1 woman period. There is no debate, no discussion. I'm neither homophobic nor a religious zealot (I'm agnostic) and I voted yes on 8.

Perhaps those people believe it is a situation to wed a member of the other sex in the eyes of God.

marriage is for creating children not to commit sodomy on your buddy. i think most people still believe marriage should be a man and a woman even if you are not a religious person.

They don't want the government to legitimize relationships they consider to be "ungodly." And the idea of two guys having sex probably makes them squeamish.

The justifications are feeble in my point of view.
