Why are taxes and fees so high on Mexican airlines?
It seems like airlines like Mexicana have to add 70% of the ticket price in taxes. So a $350 ticket bought from the US would cost $750 with taxes and surcharges.
Why is that? (does it have anything to do with the recent privatization of the industry?)
Are the Mexican authorities retarded for making such a high tax? Do they not want people to fly on their airlines?
Is there a way to get around paying such high taxes?
I meant $650

Because they know the average Mexican is unable to afford to fly. Those that are must be foreigners who will pay the tax.
Once you get outside the US, you will find the taxes for air travel are much higher than in the US. I was looking at a round-trip flight from London to Edinburgh. The cost of the flight itself was 10 pounds. The additional taxes were over 100 pounds.
