Why call Obama, now, the "first African American" president?
Obama is of mixed blood, black/white. He was raised by his white grandmother and according to articles written he really has no roots or ties to his black heritage. So why all the hoopla?

In regards to Barack Obama …
Although he is of partial African linage and healso
"identifies (socio-politically) as what most people
refer to as that of "black" ---- the Ethnicity that the
media has ascribed to him is simply inaccurate.
Barack Obama's being MIXED-RACE is actually **not**
what precludes him from being an African-American (AA)
-- (especially when one considers the fact that more than
70% of the people who are born to parents who are both
members of the African-American (AA) Ethnic grouping
are actually of a fully and continually MIXED-RACE lineage).
What precludes him from being an AA is that he is *not*
“a descendent of the people who were once held in chattel slavery
during the antebellum era of the continental United States”
(which is what the TRUE definition of an AA
is, as fully explained in the link found below).

Actually I think he does have ties to his African heritage because he visited Kenya where his dad is from and where his half brother lives. He still is consider African American because he was born in Hawaii which is still America.

Because even during segregation, if you were mixed, what were you treated as? African American. Now that we have a African American your going to try to take that away?

It is almost racist to call him black since he had a white mother and was raised by his white grandmother.
By legal definitions he is actually considered white.
Maybe we should call him the first mixed race president.

Because he prefers not to be called a mulatto.
Have you seen his wife? No ties to his herritage?

ok so start making him white now if that peaces your mind that you still have white president
