Why do Americans have such an obsession with the color of someone's skin?
The whites of America have to remember that their ancestors took the ancestors of the African American's, not only from their homes and family, but their country and heritage also. Then they brought them to the States and made them cut their cane and pick their cotton from sun up to sun down and even bred them like animals. They were forced to live in dirty cabins, given only the basics of food and clothing etc. By bringing them to the States you made them American citizens and they have every right to enjoy that citizenship and its privileges , after all your ancestors took everything else from them. And as for the African American's its time to try to forgive, and i don't say forget, but rather try to make America a even better country for all , black and white..
$$$ it was the white man who showed them this,

Who now slow down and do a little research. White man sold an transported them to the Americas, north, south and central. Did you also know that it was warring chieftain that often had neighboring tribe sold of for profit, women, and the right to there lands, So until u do your research it a bit pleaseeee! Those that were brought here, were worked yes and sold yes, bet also feed, some were educated, some were freed. I have had black men tell me the only reason they want white women is to get back at the white man. So who hold a grudge? When one race rubs another and won't forget the past How do you expect any forgetting, Why not make it a Black/White/Grey issue, Blacks have been know to have court cases over being dark skinned or light skinned black.I did not sell anyone, did not buy anyone, or really know of anyone that did. But I have to hear it every day how my race was so bad to them. There are still boat and planes that go back to Africa daily, and see any going. I think not! They know when they have it made. Free Housing, welfare, bets a grass hut, spears, and wild animals. Ever take a black man in the woods?

Forgive And Forget...Yea It Is Time To But I Think One Thing You Have To Realize Is That People Who Were Brought Up Around Others That Still Hate Another Race Will Feed Off Of That Hatred And It's Like A Virus It's Just Gets Passed On So As Long As The KKK And The Black Panthers Stand This Issue Will Never Fade.

Please don't take this as racist, but Africans weren't the only ones in history to be taken as slaves. Slavery still exists, even in the US. I've seen stories on the news every few years where they find someone keeping slaves in their homes, generally rich people keeping people from poor nations.
Historically it was very common for groups of people to kill other groups of people, rape some of the women, and take them for wives or slaves. The Greeks were big in the slave trade back in antiquity.
I'm not trying to make what happened in the earlier days of America seem like nothing, because it was horrible...but I feel like people make it seem like this was the only time this ever happened.
The world was built with the sweat of slaves and the poor. It wasn't right but it was. The crying about it still won't help America move on and be able to look past race, and black and white aren't the only two there are.
I think there has been great progress made since the time of slavery, and I don't think anyone would disagree with that.

They dont. It is based on different cultures and the way people carry themselves. You beleive what you are taught for the most part and it is sad but true. We have all come a long way to get over all of that and there are still a few that keep pushing the issue. We cant do anything about what our ancestors did and everyone needs to get over that as well. This generation has come further then most and I believe the longer we all live together as one the better it will get. We just need to give it time. If you really look at it ...it has come a VERY long way.

I'm not about to justify slavery at all, but do people even consider how much better off their families are today being in this country rather than where their ancestors were originally brought from? Even in the poorest of poor areas in the US, the people are better off than 85% of the rest of the world. Days without food are very rare and they at least live under some sort of solid roof.
Some of the comments and speakers over time have at times made me wish we would just give them a free ticket back to their homeland if they have a problem with the way things are here. It's not that it excuses slavery.. I just wish people would recognize and be grateful for the opportunity of a better life they have here.
It's long past time to move on. Yes there are still some people who treat people differently based on race, but there are people who treat people differently because of any number of things. It will never go away completely, but I think the majority of people no longer judge people based on race anymore than they do on any other first impressions.
If this election truly wasn't about race, why I am I continuing to see the race topic plastered all over the news both in papers and on TV? I don't understand the big hype. To me an American won the election. All along that's all I saw, though the media kept trying to repeatedly force the race issue into our minds.
It's really just time to move on and recognize everyone is an equal person, both in terms of not making discriminating judgments based on a person's skin color but also not giving anyone any special treatment because of it either. It works both ways.

No idea. I'm a Canadian living in the US and it never ceases to surprise me the absolute obsession Americans have with the color of a persons skin. And its not just the whites that do it, its everyone else too. In Canada, the color of a persons skin really doesn't matter much.
Btw, the below post is right... African Americans aren't the only ones to suffer slavery. Its happened throughout history.
Its time to move on honey. You aren't slaves anymore. Hell... we just elected a black President. As a black comedian said on his show that night... "From picking cotton in the sun to flying on Air Force One". Move on.

The slave trade is an interesting history. Slaves were actually hunted and captured by their OWN people and DELIVERED to the slave ships for compensation. It was an ugly, horrific chapter is the history of MANY nations. It is a profound issue in American BECAUSE we are SUPPOSED to be a free nation. You're right about forgiving and NOT forgetting. Because I am white, I cannot begin to understand what it is like to be a person of color in America. I do know how far we have come and that THAT is what we should focus on.

some times we ignorantly put a whole group for a few. it's not all Americans who have problems. its becoming fewer and fewer everyday. but we constantly have reminders of racisim rap songs political mudslinging. They bash the old the religion the race they being a smaller majority and making the hole look bad. because some people don't look past the few to the whole we get racism age discrimination ethnic hatred. not to call you out but look how you groups every American we're not all filled with hate. i could add to your points about how Africans we're selling their own country men to us we cannot be like that and forget all our country men. but until we say a better country for all regardless...... we are not equals

i pass to Florida State college, and we've the comparable subject. What makes the version for us is that we've the help of the community Seminole tribe. for my area, in case you have the help of the tribe, the NCAA ought to get off its severe horse and permit it pass. If no longer, then they have a valid component. Your 80 years of custom is not greater substantial than the traditions and emotions of the community individuals themselves who have been "combating Sioux" long formerly there develop right into a school in North Dakota. So if the community tribes assist you, then I want you the better of success against the evil NCAA that doesn't comprehend whilst to innovations its own company! concerning expert communities, they are inner maximum companies. good or incorrect, they might call their communities regardless of they want to. as long as they have the help of their followers, their group names won't substitute. For the Blackhawks, i think of it is wonderful. For the Washington Redskins, whose call is an obtrusive racial slur, i think of that's shameful.
