In regards to the Prop 8 issue...?
If marriage is only an issue of love, what's to stop people from practicing polygamy or getting married to animal or objects?
I'm not trying to point fingers. I just noticed that this issue came up a few times in regards to the prop 8 debate.
I was just interested in people's opinions.
I didn't mean to be insulting by mentioning polygamy. Polygamy was practiced in the bible, it could be said to be a religious issue...

Proposition 8 supporters claim that the gay marriage "changes the definition" of marriage so much that it essentially makes marriage meaningless, and that it would only be a matter of time before all of society's morals go down the toilet.
Advocates of gay marriage claim that the definition of marriage always has been, spiritually, and should be that marriage is between two consenting (human) adults. As Ellen Degeneres said, "Some people think that gay marriage will lead to people marrying goats...and they think we're weird."
And marrying animals or objects wouldn't be possible even if that argument were anything other than ludicrous; my dog, Cheesy, cannot give consent.
You're right to bring up polygamy, not that gay marriage will lead to it, but that is the actual origin of marriage. Historically, polygamy has been far more common than "regular" marriage (such a thing really does not exist). Proponents of Prop 8 claim that one-man-one-woman marriage has been the preferred mode for the entirety of human history, which is very untrue.

Ok, an animal or an object can't take vows or express love. Number 2: polygamy, if you don't mind sharing a spouse that's on you. Now on prop 8 the government should not make laws limiting people's civil rights when exercising those rights that are being limited will in no way cause a threat to those around them. What harm could a same sex couple choosing to marry cause you?

Exactly my point.
Maybe not the part about marrying objects/animals. If a man can marry a man and a woman marry a woman when they "love" each other who is anyone to say that a brother can't marry a sister (or any relative) or someone can't be married to more then one person if they "truly love" each other.
All laws discriminate against SOMEONE. If you're going to live the lifestyle of a homosexual/polygamist/incest you chose not to get married. Homosexual couples already have civil unions with a lot of the same rights as Marriage (adoption, visitation, legal assets). Personally I'm glad prop 8 passed, though I fear it will not last.

i don't think of "all" Christians say that...those that do are probable nicely attentive to the actual incontrovertible fact that for the duration of a democratic society, the guideline they think of is, at one particular evaluate historic previous, the "regulation of the land", can finally be over-became or maybe re-submitted for balloting with an completely distinctive bring about user-friendly terms a era later (or maybe the subsequent polllater)...in spite of each and every thing, if the ending of Jim Crow regulations interior the South have been left as much as the voters, could they have been declared unlawful as quickly as they have been? could they additionally be thoroughly unlawful immediately? and fantastically, could there be a black guy sitting interior the Oval place of work immediately, or could he be caught in Alabama being directed to the "different" ingesting fountain till now he climbed on the returned of the bus?

Sheep or toasters can't legally sign a marriage license, and there's only room for two signatures on the form. Why do you think that letting two people of the same sex who love each other and want to spend their lives together get married is the same as marrying a dog, your car, or a whole lot of other people?

No one is asking to marry a toaster or a penguin. People are saying they want to marry one person, it just so happens that its someone of the same sex.
How do you legislate love?
And the polygamy argument is so insulting I'm not even going to address it.

Why is it every time this comes up someone brings up animals and objects... seriously.. are you ignorant? Just because we are gay does not mean we are psycho.. would you marry an animal? I would imagine some heterosexual ppl would marry animals if they could .. I mean you have straight women having sex with dogs donkeys .. why do people point the finger at us?

Gay marriage is a promise of mutual love respect and support between two rational beings of equal standing
Marriage between an adult (pedophilia) and a minor - this must not pass because one party is not in equal footing with the other.
Bestiality - two beings involving only one rational being
Sex with a toaster -- Hahahaha! What analogy! Well...c'mon, let's save on the electricity so let us not allow it.

If you want to talk about bestiality, and polygamy relationships, don't talk to us about it.
Gay marriage has absolutely NOTHING to do with anything other than -2- -HUMANS- wanting to marry...the only difference is gender! geesh, I'm tired of this argument.
Well hey you know what, how is it any of your business if someone wants to marry an animal or object(not that it has anything to do with gay marriage)?? I wish people would focus on their own lives, instead of bringing others lives down.

Whatever floats your boat.
If you want to marry a sheep, have at it.
If wooden crates get your rocks off, who am I to stop you?

Edit: The toaster comment made me lol. I had such an awesome visual...
