That's his 'Flavor Shaker'. You can buy it at some houseware stores/department stores. Do an on-line search under Flavor Shaker

Billie R, there are three that he uses. The Mortise and Pestle, hand Grinder, or the Electric Grinder. All three similar can be found at a kitchen outlet. The other suggestion is go to the front of the book, and it should tell you ingredient definitions and publishers details or even Jamie's Company name I think is there. Send an email, and ask for availability, and cost.

it's the flavour shaker and i'd recommend that you buy a good mortar and pestle and a spice mill instead. the flavour shaker is the most useless thing... don't bother!

either something doesn't need crushing (salad dressing) and a cup and a spoon is enough or it does (curry paste etc.) and then you'll need mortar and pestle (or blender). the flavour shaker is just a thing that will sit in your cupboard and take up space... (that's what it's been doing since we got it as a present - used exactly once because it's rubbish)
