is a flap over a female dog genetic?

my Borzoi, kind of like a really hairy greyhound, has a flap of skin that almost completely covers her, uh, 'parts' anyways i have poured alot of money into her showing career over the last few years and just wondered if she could/should be bred, does anyone know if this is condition has a name? is it responsible of me to have it surgically removed for breeding? And if this is genetic, should i even show her knowing that she is not a good representative of the Borzoi as a breed? any insight would help, although please focus on naming this conditon for me!

If you have been showing her for years, then the breed standards and what is and isn't acceptable should be BURNED into your head. Not to mention, you should have plenty of contacts to get a hold of to discuss these issues, and if there were any issues your vet should of discussed them with you when you brought her in for her regular vaccines/exam, or to get her genetic testing done.

The best thing to do is talk to your Vet- Maybe its something specific to the breed- Or maybe she had an injury as a pup- Who can tell with a fuzzy backside? At many of the shows I attend they have breeding soundness clinics put on by Vet colleges. They are inexpensive and confidential. Take her to one of these and ask what the heck is going on! If it is a genetic problem, I wouldn't breed her because you are passing the problem on down to who knows how many puppies. Be responisble and help stop whatever the problem is. If she is fine, and has been winning at the shows, hey, go ahead and create a Best of Breed winner! Hope this helped a little- Good Luck!

I believe it is referred to as a Tucked Vulva. Type it into any browser.
