MAUI - Haleakala National Park, how to best see...?

Hi guys,

Will be going to Maui in a month and want to see the sunrise and hike around the volcano, is it easy to get to (we'll have a reantal car) and are there any good hikes that we can do alone with out the need of a guide?

    Also, one thing to remember which seems out of place in Hawaii is that it gets really, really cold on Haleakala at night especially in the early morning. A lot of people drive up there to see the sunrise but they are wearing shorts and they don't get out of their cars until it warms up.

    leave for haleakala very early plan on an average speed of 25 mph up the hill.

    Dress warm like for 50 degree weather.

    it can be very crowded and difficult finding parking.
