Digital camera that suddenly won't switch on properly or take photos. it is not recognised by PC?

I have had this camera (which is a praktica) for proximately 3 years. It suddenly failed me 2 days ago. I plugged it into the computer to view the latest photos taken that day. No sooner had I done so the memory card slipped a bit and the whole procedure froze on me. I thought I could set the camera right off the computer. It lit up for 2 seconds then went out. I checked batteries. I also checked the memory card in a card reader. It worked fine. The camera seems to have shut down and I can't seem to open it again.

Update:

This camera in question is a Praktica model DC slim 5. I have already tested the external memory card in a card reader before posing this question and it works fine in both my computer and my son's one. However I was interested in the idea of resetting the internal memory by poking a pin into a small hole. the only problem is what hole? where is it?

Two possibilitiess: first you might have screwed up the memory card and the camera reallydoesn'tt like a badly formatted or corrupted memory card. Take the card out and try restarting the camera without it or use a different memory card. Second, it has got screwed up memory in the camera and you need to find how to do a hard reset - there is usually a very small hole that you can pike the end of a paper clip into which does a reset - often inside the battery or card compartment or underside of the camera (try the manual and / or practika's website for info on that). Do the reset with the card out to start with just in case you have both these problems together! Good luck.

I have a digital camera and love all the features and photo editing that was included in the camera. The pictures are good, when I put them full-screen size they are very clear and to me that is good enough.
