Whats a good organization where I can adopt an animal?

I love animals and I'm interesting in adopting a wild animal from a GOOD organization. I don't want to donate a lot of money and stuff, but I would like to adopt an animal at a cheap cost. Anyone have any information or good organizations that you know of? Thanks :]

Update:

ok, i do NOT want to adopt an animal for my home. there is such thing as adopting an animal in a different country at a shelter and sending donations to them.

    Adopt a "wild animal?"

There's no such thing as a good organization adopting wild animals to private homes.

If you're actually looking for a pet check out your local animal shelter, animal specific rescue, or even check out http://www.petfinder.com/

Also remember the adoption price is generally the cheapest part of owning any animal.

Figurative adopting to help save wildlife you mean?:

Have you seen this website by chance?

Donations are from $20 on up, with different options for each animal available.

There are a lot of websites that only "adopt" one species of animal out as well- So if we knew if you were looking for something specific it may be easier to help may you.

Some wildlife reserves, zoos, and what not will also offer "adoptions" from time to time but generally only to local residence.

I would suggest in the future to be a bit clearer as well- There are many people out there that do indeed believe (wrongly in my opinion) that it's perfectly acceptable to bring a wild animal into their home as a pet.

The Humane Society. Why do you want to adopt a "wild" animal when there are so many cats and dogs that need a home? Exotic/wild animals need special care and treatment. If you are an animal lover, you won't be able to leave the Humane Society without a needy animal begging for your love.

Knowing your country would help. An ex-flatmate of mine in Australia worked for National Parks and Wildlife and they had a programme of getting people to look after orphaned animals for a certain amount of time before they got reintroduced back into the wild. Did you know fruit bats will actually learn their name and come when called! Otherwise the RSPCA.

The ASPCA- or North Shore Animal league-- your bound to find many pets at the shelter just waiting for to be adopted and have a good home.

Try the Northshore animal league at: http://www.nsalamerica.org/

They are a great organization, and Howard Stern's wife is so into them she just raised over $250,000 for them in the NYC marathon.

See, Howard is not the devil, so you found a great organization and learned that not everything about Howard Stern that you hear is true.

    Seriously though, a great organization.
