Really Need Help with word problems Please?

1. The second side of a triangle is 3 meters shorter than twice the first side. The third side is 4 meters longer than the second side. If the perimeter is 58, find the length of each of the triangle.


2. How many liters of a 10% solution must be mixed with 15 liters of 40% salt solution to obtain a 20% salt solution?

3. Dillon received $ 1600 from his parents as a graduation present. He invested part of it at 4% interest, and he invested the remainder at 6%. If the total yearly interest amounted to $82, hot much did he invest at each rate?

Draw a picture! It will make the word problem easier. So for the first one, start off by drawing a triangle. It can be any triangle, doesn't have to be perfect. Then label the sides 1, 2, and 3.

Side 2 is three meters shorter than twice Side 1. So, make Side 1 be "x" length, and make Side 2 "2x - 3" length (which is twice side one, minus three). Then, since Side 3 is four meters longer than side two, make Side 3 "2x - 3 + 4"

So, the perimeter of this triangle is 58. The perimeter is the sum of all the sides. So Side 1 + Side 2 + Side 3, which is:

x + 2x - 3 + 2x - 3 + 4 = 58

Now add like terms...

5x - 2 = 58

Add 2 to both sides

5x = 60

Divide by 5

x = 12

And there you go! Side 1 is 12 meters, Side 2 is 21 meters, and Side 3 is 25 meters.
