Ok so you could basically define the topic first for instance let them know that listening involves one person speaking whilst the other person focuses on the content of the speakers conversation by "listening"go on to say that listening is different from just "hearing"as it involves actively focusing on the speakers conversation and taking in and the subject so as to understand what they are speaking about and perhaps go on to respond to the speaker when they have finished thier speech by repeating what they have heard in summary then giving thier own view etc thus demonstrating that they did in fact listen to what was said.
