Horse growth? (how tall will he get?)?

My horse is a 17hh chunky thoroughbred (he's quite big boned, he looks like he might have a touch of something big like shire etc in his breeding a bit back but his pedigree says that he's all thoroughbred)and he's just turned 5yo a few weeks ago. I know that horses stop growing at around 5-8years and I was just wondering if anyone knows about how much he'll grow to. Any personal experience?

Thanks!

Update:

Here's a pic of him. His dam was only 16hh and I know his sire was 16hh.

He may grow another inch or two, but I think he's done growing up, and will grow 'out' some, by filling in. Although, he may have already done that, if you say he's chunky.

You never really can tell....it depends on on the horse, really. Some horses don't stop growing until their about 8-10, but one thing you could do is to look at your horse's Dam, because a horse usually takes it's size from it's mother.

    Hope this helps!!

i would think that is it for growth now. i have not known a horse grow much after around 4 yrs.prob is exceptions, but i have worked with foals and young stock and also bred my own and none have really grown much after that.

    sounds big now!
