Sprint Instinct.. How to activate?

Ok, so i have verizon n i know nothing about sprint. My bf is down south at a base training for Jan when he gets deployed to Iraq. I bought him the instinct phone for xmas when he comes home for 9 days. okay so i got it on ebay... its refurbished. Its from sprint like its all ligit n stuff... but like it came with a notecard explaining to put his old phone and mail it to sprint or watever.. does he actually have 2 send him the old phone to activate this new one?? cuz with verizon we just go to a verizon store n they take the number off the old phone and put it on the new... help anyone???

    Alright, first, you need to start a plan with Sprint. Bring in the phone to the Sprint store when you do. If you already have a plan with Sprint then just head down to the store with the Instinct and whatever phone he was using before. There they can transfer the account over to the new phone.

    Go to the sprint store and ask them for assistance.
