Seawater contains approximately 3.5 % NaCl by mass and has a density of 1.02 g/mL.

What volume of seawater contains 8.0 g of sodium?

    3.5 = mass solute x 100 / 100 g solution

    so 3.5 g in 100 g solution

    volume = 100 g / 1.02 L = 98 mL

    3.5 g : 98 mL= 8.0 : x

    x = 224 mL
