Is it legal to copy a User Agreement from another site?

When building a website that will include user forums and media content, it may be difficult to come up with an original User Agreement. If there is an existing User Agreement on another site that can be slightly adjusted, what are the restrictions or considerations involved in copying and using it? How does one go about creating an original User Agreement when so many others are perfectly worded for the intended application?

The User Agreement for another website is considered intellectual and copy-written property of another individual. This is, in effect, plagiarism and using it for your site would result in opening yourself up to a civil law suit.

You can, on the other hand, look at their user agreement and other user agreements, and word yours in a similar fashion so it pertains to your website. Copy/pasting and using exact phrases is a good way get into trouble, so be aware of that as well.

Most webmasters (myself included) when asked politely, will gladly let you use these things.

Just shoot off a nice polite e-mail, saying a bunch of nice things about the User Agreeement being so well written and ask if you could customize it for your site. As a bonus you might even include a link in your disclaimer "this disclaimer courtesy of suchandsuch.com"

back links are always nice :-)

The agreement is the intellectual property of the owner. The owner may be the site itself, or the attorney who crafted it for the site. Either way, although it may be widely abused...it's STEALING!

i do no longer in all possibility know yet i think so. you're actually not allowed to apply the photos in this internet site. however the tough template you're allowed to apply. I based some web content i made for agencies on different web content too. (You wont get punished for that as long as you do no longer use exacly a similar issues).
