How can I save my Windows XP Home Edition reactivation files so that I don't have to reactivate again?

I was having some trouble with my computer (finally got it fixed) but now its going extra slow right now. I have tried to system restore it to a different point, but it won't do it. Also tried defragmenting it and it came up with this error, "Disk Defragmenter Could Not Start". Then I tried defragmenting with a different program and still the same thing. So my first thought was to check for any viruses and spyware, after scanning my computer multiple times there are none. The last option was to try a disk check and I got this message, "Windows was unable to complete the check" I know that this has to do something with all the programs I've installed (stupid me, I know) but I want to know is there anyway that I can save my activation files so that I don't have to call my microsoft again, or is there a way to find out what the problem is and just fix it rather install a whole new os. (Ps, I'm tired of getting on the phone with microsoft, I'm sure they've got me on speed dial lol)

is your o.s. installed 2 years old without reformatting?? if so, you should really reformat it now, if you bought a windows with the box, you wouldn't have the problem to reinstalled your windows but b4 reforematting, backup all your driver files by using the program called "driver genius" in your sotrage device then reformat pc, install os then install your bak-uped drivers then your pc will be fine again.

just dont bak up your registry

Activate Windows XP from Floppy Diskette Backup

Circumstances arise where you'll need to reinstall Windows XP on your machine when no hardware changes have been made. Rather than go through the reactivation process, create a floppy disk to back up the activation status file. Once XP has been reinstalled the floppy can be used to restore the previous activation status.

Create the Activation Status Floppy Diskette

    Navigate to %systemroot%\system32 folder.

Copy the wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files to the floppy diskette.

    Reinstall Windows XP

Reinstall XP in the normal manner. After the install is completed and the XP Out Of Box Experience (OOBE) appears where you'd normally activate the product, decline to activate and let the installation complete.

    Activate the XP Reinstallation

Restart the computer and use the F8 key to bring up the Advanced Boot Options menu.

Select Minimal Safe Mode using Up and Down Arrow Keys and press Enter.

    Navigate to %systemroot%\system32 folder.

Rename the existing wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files.

Using the floppy diskette, copy the previously backed up wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files to the %systemroot%\system32 folder.

    Reboot the computer.

Try running the disk checker again by doing the following:

go to start and run in xp just start in vista and type cmd and enter

then type chkdsk /f and enter - you should get a failed message that will also ask if you want it to run at next restart type y and enter

restart your computer and check disk will run
