Childcare Question for providers?

My childcare provider is pregnant and has some what of an at risk pregnancy so she is going to the doctor every two weeks. Each time she has an appt she takes the entire day off and I have to use a backup provider. Should I still be paying full-price for the weeks that she has appointments? I always pay full-price if I keep my daughter home or something, but this seems like she's getting a whole bunch of paid days off!

Update:

I actually did ask her and she said that she normally wouldn't reduce the rate and other providers wouldn't reduce the rate, but she guesses she could. So she's kind of making me feel bad. I don't want to screw her or anything and I like her, but not sure what's fair. Our contract actually states that she can take 10 days personal leave unpaid... doctors appts sound like personal leave to me...

    It depends, the providers I talked to would get one week paid when baby is not in their care. Did you have any similar agreement with her? If so, keep track of those days and once she surpasses the agreed upon number of days, start deducting that day from her weekly pay. if you have no agreement, ask her. I mean, consider her your employee in a way...if you had an employee doing that...wouldn't you ask them?

    No you shouldnt be paying her to not be there and you also pay for someone else too. NO WAY!! I work in childcare have for seven yrs and when i need a day off not only do i find someone else that i know to keep the children if there parents want i would never expect them to pay full price. Now that would make sence if you cancled on her not the other way around. You need to have a talk with her or find anothe sitter. Good Luck!

    I am a licensed home provider also and i am currently awaiting my second one . Each time that i go to the hospital i make sure i have someone to cover for me . You don have to pay for her and the other provider if it is her who is closing down . I see you have been a loyal customer to her , some parents would have left a long time ago no matter how good she is ..

    Also where those personnal vacations days cited in the contract that they will be paid ? If yes then she is right she can use her vaction times as she wants to . It kind of sucks

    I have provided licensed in home care for eighteen years. I had to take off the other day because I had pancreatitis and was in the hospital for 4 days on an IV. I went to the hospital on Thursday night or rather Friday morning, I had vomited for six hours. It was too late to call in back up care. This was the second day I didn't cover myself with emergency care, the first a divorce(my back up was sick) and the second, a trip to the hospital. We are human, but at the same time, if she is going to provide care, she should have back up care to cover her in an absence. Let her know how you feel and I'll bet together you can work something out.

    no. either get a different childcare or pay less on the days she takes off.

    I wouldn't. Just tell her you can't afford to pay her AND the other childcare!
