Do schools still give out reports cards for kids?

Do kids still get report cards, or has that changed too because if a child sees a below average grade they fear it will harm his self esteem? Personally I think kids need report cards and learn to deal and live with being personally responsible for below expectations. That is a way they learn to deal with real life.

Yes they do. I agree with your statement. In the district I work in, they don't give the elementary kids an A-F grade. It is a wierd setup of other letters, and it is really ambiguous. I work with junior high kids, and when they get to me in 7th grade, I have to explain to them what an A is, what a B is/means, etc. I think they meant well in elementary school but it hurts them worse because they find out that they aren't doing well enough in school just at the age when it is most devastating. Right when puberty is hitting and your hair is wrong, your looks are wrong, everything is wrong and not good enough. And here comes this "brand new" system of A, B, C, D, F that tells you that you are failing or below average. As a teacher, the kids that aren't working hard enough, I let them know right away, so they have time to fix it. I think lying to them with other letters just makes it harder when they know the truth. Great question.

yes they do. they used to mail them at our school, but to save money on stamps, they give them to the kids to bring home... it's up to the kids to take it home and sow their parents... i personally think they should continue mailing them, but with today's economy...
