Potential details for alien first contact?
I'm tinkering with an idea for a short story. It involves human explorers on an extra-solar planet trying to establish communication with an obviously intelligent, but entirely non-technological native life-form. Are there any on-line discussions about such contact and what the current prevailing theories are about what form it would take and what it would look like?
I'm most certainly not looking for aliens contacting Earth and ushering us into a cosmic wonderland. In this story the humans are the aliens, contacting a different species which did not expect our coming.

Actually, I wanted to use this as a platform to explore the difficulties in recognizing intelligence different from our own. Also the difficulties in communicating with a different kind of intellect.

Sometimes, I think all you need is yourself.
Nevertheless, how about trying to look up some of the crazy and out there stories about aliens abducting humans, justify it, and flip the characters around?
