I have a 2002 Chaparrel deck boat in Fl. that I put away for the summer. I can't get it to shift into gear. ?

The trim button works, I can press the button in to rev engine in neutral, but can't shift out of neutral. Any suggestions?

If you can push the button in from neutral and your throttle works, when

you bring it back to neutral to shift into gear does the button pop back out?If yes then there is a problem with something else. The easiest way

to check is to remove the shift cable from the back on the engine. If it

shifts now then you have a problem with the intermediate shift cable out to the drive.Probably seized and need to be replaced. If the control does not shift when you have the cable removed then your problem is in the control box.I hope this helps and good luck.

The linkage could be out of adjustment. This will stop you from putting it in gear when the rpm,s are to high.

The other thing to look for is the push pull cable, it could be dirty and siezed up. There are two one for rpm's and one for the transmisson.
