switching from Vista to XP?

I am doing this for a friend soon, or at least, I shall attempt to. She definitely prefers XP/does not like Vista. Anyhow, a few questions:

1) could this possibly have any negative hardware issues? I can't tell you her hardware specs, but just wondering... drivers and such.

2) this is a stupid question, but I don't know crap about Vista (only use XP and Mac OS X Leopard at home)... if she backs up her documents on an external hard drive before I wipe her internal HD, will they be readable by XP?

3) One last thing... does installing XP over Vista work just like any other windows install from CD (from boot) i.e. just restart, wipe the HD, and install? No blatant problems with this plan?

Thank you thank you!

Update:

*** I know question 1 seems futile, but I am wondering, have there been any OBVIOUS hardware side-effects. Google told me yes and no, so just wondering about public opinion/experience.

    1. There isnt much(if any) "Vista Only" hardware, as long as you can get the drivers for it, XP should work just fine.

    2. The OS doesn't matter as far as reading documents only the software that reads them. If you made a word document in Vista using Office 2007, you will need to have Office 2007 in XP to correctly view it.

    3. Yes, you can format and install XP from the XP install CD.

    1) There are unlikely to be any issues as most hardware will have been developed with XP in mind, rather than Vista. It may depend on the exact hardware, you are best to run dxdiag (Start menu, type dxdiag into the search box and hit enter) to get an idea of the hardware she has, then you can just do a quick web search to see if XP drivers are available. Personally I wouldn't bother - there is essentially zero chance of there being a Vista driver but not an XP one!

    2) Yep - the documents will be just fine.

    3) Yes. Wipe the hard drive and reinstall XP from the boot CD.
