polio has been eradicated in the United States.
you were vaccinated as a child and therefor can't get it.
it is a vial infection that in a very small percentage of cases results in weakness or complete paralysis of the legs, arms, or both. The majority of those infected do NOT get paraysis, but for some people the infection means living in a wheel chair the rest of your life.
This is one of MANY vaccine success stories - the fact that this disease that killed thousands of children in the USA only 50 years ago -- and here you have never even heard of it ! That's a great reason why you should get all your vaccines !

Polio is a disease that you shouldn't have considering most (if not all?) children in Western nations are vaccinated for it. But it harms the bodies in different ways depending on the type. Some people don't get any very bad symptoms. Sometimes people become paralyzed from it, sometimes they just have deformed limbs (usually legs). People usually think that FDR had Polio, but that's not true. (He had some other disease.)
If you had Polio, you'd know you had it.
