Guns N Roses, Chinese Democracy CD?

Has anybody heard the new Guns N Roses CD? I am undecided to buy it or not. I was brought up on G'N'R with Slash, Duff etc and not too sure if the new CD is worth the many years waiting, thanks to all.

I really liked it. It wasn't as soft as I thought it would be. & the other tracks are a hell of a lot better than the single. Even the Rolling Stone magazine gave them a 4 1/2 stars which is pretty big for such an influential magazine like that.

I heard the 8 tracks that were leaked on the internet a few months ago. I'm not a big GNR fan, but I was very curious to hear them since the LP has been in the making for what...15 years now? I listened to all the tracks and found myself comparing what I heard to Jane's Addiction's last LP "Strays" The music is very "layered" and (IMHO) does not have that "grab yer gut" sound of the first few albums.

OK now that being said the tracks are very good, I dig "IRS", "Better" and "The Blues". Will this stand up to early GNR? I think most of their hardcore following will NOT like this new LP, but some will if they keep an open mind to the band with regards to drum machines (used tastefully of course) and some techno-type sounds filtered through a heavy metal filter.

Best thing is to borrow a friends CD and give it a listen, maybe even a few times just to make sure you get the idea of it. If you like it, then rip it to your iPod or buy it on CD for yourself. You and only you can make the decision if ya like it, if you get my drift.

    Here's a review: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7730075.s...

Select quotes from the review -

"This record is an uncompromising, fully-focused, hard rock monster."

"...heavily distorted guitar shows Rose has been paying attention to the innovations of Tom Morello and Matt Bellamy."

"By rights, Chinese Democracy should have been an unholy mess. But Rose seems to have learned his lesson after the sprawling self-indulgence of 1991's Use Your Illusion."

"Too often, guitar lines sound like technical exercises - fingers running up and down the fretboard at the expense of melody."

"...when several songs plump for "na na na" backing vocals, you find yourself wondering why no-one had time to finish off the lyrics."

"Maybe all the heartache was worth it."

To add to Paperbags answer, Rolling Stone (for what that's worth) also gave it a rave review.

I'm very conflicted about this album as well. I'll wait for the radio to play a few singles before I buy it (or not).

You might want to listen to the single released on iTunes to know if the album is worth buying... Chinese Democracy (the song) is already on sale on iTunes...
