56K modem is your dial-up internet connection. Unless you don't plan on using dial-up, you don't need it.

Holy crap I am getting OLD!! Once upon a time there was no broadband and people used there phone lines to get what was known as 56 kilobyte per second connections. It uses a RJ11 connection ( the small one for a plain old telephone system) and a telephone modem. The phone networks were (and still are) the largest medium to tie the world wide web together. where ethernet uses a RJ45 connection (a bit wider) for the faster connections like Cable or DSL. I would google the reccomended specs for the game, that would be best.

1. My XP laptop has a 56k modem and built in wireless card. You can get an external wireless device to pick up signals. 2. If your laptop has more than 10 GB of HD space I would consider upgrading, and yes you can. Just need a windows xp pro or home (i prefer pro) startup disk and boot from it. 3. You can get any internet for a laptop!!! 4. Ebay!

56k modems are pretty out-dated technology. They allow you to use dial-up modems to connect to the internet or other computers. You'll need an ethernet port to connect to your router. 56k uses a phone line. Ethernet ports use RJ45 cords to connect to the router. You can ignore the 56k modem as a computer "perk".. you'll never use it.

Intergrated - bulit in
56k - standard dial up speed
Modem - device for making a network over a telephone line
It won't do wireless.
Networking Wireless-N Card, on the other hand, will.

That's for connecting to the internet through the phone line. You'll probably not needed now .. but in some countries it's still used..
