Tax Deductible Pet Expenses?

Are any portion of your expenses for your pet (medical, adoption fees, license fees ETC.) tax deductible?

    It is deductible on Sch-A IF is it a seeing eye dog assisting the blind, or similar.

    Otherwise, pet expenses are considered personal expenses, and not deductible.

    As a pet, no, sorry to say. If this were a show dog you might be able to deduct the cost of transportiation to shows, grooming, breeding, etc. But you would have to meet standards by the IRS that this was business, not hobby activity.

    However, if your pet is a medical-assist animal (seeing eye dog, etc), may be deductible under "medical expenses" on Sch A - not sure, but would need to research...

    That bill was introduced months ago and went nowhere and isn't likely to. Never got out of committee. What do I think of it? Really something the government should not be doing. Apparently the majority of congressmen feel the same.
