Why does Y/A automatically remove reported answers?
This guy gave an amazing answer to my question and some jerk reported him before I could read the edit. Does Y/A automatically remove answers whether they violate anything or not? I'm annoyed but I think that I will delete the question. Best answer isn't that big a deal...at all. Has the community resorted to sabotage?

Y!A errs on the side of caution. There are kids here. Imagine, say someone posts something here that would be harmful to kids, like say a link to a porn site, instructions on how to make a pipe bomb or make your own meth, etc. Do you really want this kind of material hanging around until 2 or 3 (or whatever number of people) report it?
When someone gets reported, they have the opportunity to appeal. If they win their appeal, their question/answer gets reinstated. So there is no harm done.
Sure, it's annoying for those of us who are wrongfully reported, but I'd rather suffer a little annoyance than to have my kids exposed to inappropriate or dangerous material.

It depends. If multiple people reported it, it would get deleted before a staffer looked at the answer. Also, if a top reporter reported it, they would delete it automatically as well. The answerer may also be victim to a troll with multiple accounts. In the end, the answerer can ask to have the answer reviewed and restored though.

Yahoo does not remove a question or answer if there is a single violation unless reported by a highly rated reporter. That does not mean that someone can't use multiple IDs to get around it. The number of reports required is based on the secret reporter status of each member.

He can appeal and get it restored but there's nothing you can do. I know, it sucks. But there are a lot of answers and questions out there and Yahoo can't do it by themselves so they've asked the community to help out. When a trusted reporter reports something it can get deleted right away otherwise it takes a few people to report something and it gets deleted.

I think that more than one person has to report it before it raises a flag. I've reported answers and saw them still posted quite a while later, although they did eventually get deleted. There was also this guy who asked others to boycott someone else's answers - his answer got deleted... I am assuming (hoping!) that someone does a sanity check before deleting an answer/question.

Y! Answers automatically removes reported answers because if Y! Answers staffs don't and users see victims' answers, then the users will learn from the victims to make stupid answers.
