What is HDMI cable and what does it do?
I heard of HDMI, but don't have a clue why it would be better than RG6. I am wiring a home theatre, and someone recommended wiring a couple of HDMI lines. I priced it out and it was very very expensive. I was wondering it it is worth the thousands of dollars I would have to spend.

HDMI is totally different than RG6 and is used for different purposes.

HDMI is a digital line whereas RG6 carries analog RF.
HDMI is frequently used to carry video and sound from or to various components in your home video system including your TV, AV receiver, and cable or satellite box. For instance, if you wall mount a plasma or LCD, you will probably be confronted with the "problem" concealing either HDMI or component cables in your wall. I love HDMI as it finally does away with the rats nest of wiring most of us have had to deal with.
The best cables out there have a 10.2 Gbit/s bandwidth and that is all you can possibly need right now (or these same cables in CL2 or CL3 versions for in wall applications). However, there are companies such as Monster Cable who advertise premium cables which are grossly overpriced which offer no real advantage over much less expensive options.

um. hdmi doesnt have to be expensive. one cable is the same as the next regardless of price
firefold.com go here for great prices
but what hdmi does is it delivers an uncompressed sound and video signal.
with your rg6 you have to compress teh signal to deliver it only to uncompress it losing quaility
