Anyone here from or been to Geraldton WA?

I'm due to go there for 8 weeks from next March as part of my medical training with the MidWest Aero Medical Services and can't wait. Just want some feedback about the area, things to do, etc

Gero (you'll be calling it that in no time!!) used to be a pretty rough place and a bit grotty. In recent years a lot of money has been spent cleaning it up and making the city centre more people friendly. There are now some nice restaurants and better shopping.

I would say be careful where you choose to live as there are, as with most places, suburbs that you don't want to live in or even drive through at night time.

Around Gero there are some great beaches, they have a few wineries to visit and there a places to go a bit further afield (Kalbarri) which have some great landscapes (gorges etc) to visit. Great fishing. You can go out on boats to some beautiful islands.

It is a fairly sports orientated place - don't know if you would have time for any of that doing medical training but spot is a great way to meet people.

Anyway, as with any other small city it has its problems (some of the local indigenous population are trouble - keep away from a suburb called Rangeway). They also had a pretty well known drug abuse problem - not sure what that is like nowdays.

    Enjoy

I have lived here for 18 months and love it. Great weather, great beaches and finally some good pubs & restaurants now too! There are some touristy things to see around town and some great tours, and a lot of nice small beach towns to visit for fishing, snorkelling, etc.

I have a feeling you will be working with a bloke called Wayne.....say gday from me, and enjoy Gero!

PS - The night clubs can be a bit dodgy. take care.
