What are the Most Overrated Cities/Attractions in Japan?
As far as cities go, I'd have to choose Osaka and Kobe. Osaka is basically a shopping center, aside from a few interesting places (the aquarium, Sumiyoshi shrine, and Peace Osaka... USJ is okay, too). I find it strange and surprising that people speak so well of it.
Now, to be fair to Kobe, I've never actually been there, but it appears to be even less interesting than Osaka. Not only is it a cultureless city, it seems not to have much else either.
Anyways, what are your thoughts?
luditte: Yes, that's why I added the disclaimer about Kobe. I also live near Osaka city. I tend to like historic and cultural places, so although I like museums, much of Osaka feels overrated to me. I was thinking about the large number of tourists that rave about Osaka, and I think it just feels more than what the city deserves. Of course, that depends on taste. My opinion is a bit "Japanese" in regards to Osaka. lol.

Harajuku: Extremely crowded and very High Prices, so there is not much fun there unless you have lots of money.
Roppongi: High class place only for people with lots of money to spent. Nothing really special to mention from there.
Akihabara: "Electronic Town"... I can find most thing from there cheaper on eBay.
Shibuya: Place for young kids with a lot of cash... Basically is you go there you have to have you pockets full of money to set foot inside any place.
Other than that there are other great places that shouldn't be missed. Tokyo Tower is one nice place and also the shrines around it are really nice. Also Ueno is a very good place to go and to kill 1 or 2 days; also the shops around there are said to be the cheapest.

As for sight seeing, I guess tokyo is the most over rated..But well it depends upon what actually you wanna see.. I am not a tourist here and so not really crazy about sight seeing in Tokyo.. I find the city very fashionable and open and happening and u know...U can party every night and still it would take a lifetime to cover all the clubs and pubs..so for me its not overrated..But if you are looking for places to visit and stuff, it sucks..big time....ask anyone in tokyo and they start talking about tokyo tower and the food etc..The tower is only a replica of the eiffel tower so no points there..the food- well I would say all the Japanese food is nice:)..Go to kyoto if wanna experience Real Japan..

Most overrated Attraction:
The Ayumi Hamasaki Hearing Aid Museum.
Certainly not worth the 50 yen I paid to see it. But I did get a small vial of genuine Ayu earwax at the museum gift shop that I sold on ebay for $200 to some wapanese dork. So I guess it worked out. The earwax also sang better.

I do think of too many everyone seems to be drawn to Japan from a lost concept that the excellent us of a is basically as loopy as they're approximately anime/manga/video games. i comprehend that i substitute into very hesitant to take eastern or admit i like eastern (I nonetheless am) via fact of people like that. maximum individuals do not look to truly like Japan, yet fairly their own seen the rustic. i think of if countless those people did fairly pass to Japan, they had be sorely disenchanted. everyone seems to be likewise poorly knowledgeable with regards to geography and subsequently neglect a pair of style of worldwide places in Asia, in my journey (such via fact the actuality that the "middle East" & India are in actuality on the continent of Asia). I additionally experience that, on the 2nd, the main information/media coverage of Asia in a fabulous gentle is centred on Japan. i might say this is the present "flavor" for Asian worldwide places. So, i does not probably call it hyped up, fairly misunderstood. this is peoples' evaluations of Japan that are "hyped up."
