FYI,
the Cerec is computer milled from a solid material and isn't subject to thermal of expansion changes as is composite.
By far the longer wearing is Cerec and if you can afford this, it's the way to go.

Definition: CEREC® is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Translated, it means that a dentist can economically restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth.
A composite filling is similiar to a cerec in that it is also tooth colored however the composite fill comes in a pliable form where the dentist apply/place the material into the cavity and light cures it. It is not custom fit to your tooth (which most filling are not unless your take an impression of you tooth) as the Cerec
I believe neither of these material expands and contract. They are both bonded to your tooth. Amalgam/silver fillings on the other hand reacts to hot/cold.
Cost:cerec difinitely more expensive. The technology is newer and the machine itself cost over 100k. Therefore the price reflects that.
I would suggest that you go with the composite if the filling is small and cost is a concern. I don't think it's necc. to replace a small cavity with a Cerec filling. Composite filling materials have come a long way since the early nineties. They are very good material these days.
Hope this helps

Cerec fillings are made out of porcelain. Porcelain is a form of glass, therefore it has no expansion/contraction. Composite fillings on the other hand are made up of resin and glass particles. The resin in these composites polymerizes when it sets (the blue light), and with any kind of polymerization, there is always shrinkage. It is this shrinkage of composite fillings, which can leave microscopic gaps between the filling and the tooth. This can possibly cause sensitivity or recurrent decay in the future.
Composite fillings are ideal for smaller cavities, where as porcelain fillings are better for larger fillings.
