Major problem with daughters computer!?
My daughter is using my husbands old computer with Windows ME. The mouse stopped working and her keyboard sucks. I want to load a logitech mini optical mouse on it. I have the software for it. But the usb ports and the cd drive are not working. Without the mouse I cannot do anything. Without the ports and drives I cannot do anything. I have it hooked up to our monitor and our keyboard, but I don't know how to get into the control panel or onto the internet without the mouse. I really need help!! I need to fix the drives and ports before I can load the mouse.
The mouse she has was half working yesterday, but today is dead and the batteries are new. I can get into the control panel areas with the keyboard but can't get it to change files once I am into the system file, or into the ODBC data source file. So I can't check the drivers.
I can do all that with the keys, except get into the drive files. It will not move up to those areas to change what I am looking at.

It is tricky to work without the mouse but possible.
You need to use the Windows key to get the Start Menu up then you can move around with the arrows keys.
You will need Tab sometimes and the <Ctrl> and <Alt> keys.
Enter to actually Do something.
<Alt>F4 to close an application
<Alt>Tab to move to a different application.
You can move the highlight (blue or dotted line round a button) with Tab and Arrow keys.
