Irregular heart beat question heart beat / anxiety?

I had a panic attack back in june and I have been feeling really good lately no more panic attacks and no more symptoms for a few months now. However last night I noticed my heart was giving off a fluttering feeling I didn't mind because when I check my wrist pulse I can feel my heart is beating fine even though I get the fluttering feeling. I am 27 years old very fit etc. Last month I had an ultrasound on my heart and the doctor said I have an athletes heart and it's excellent.

However this afternoon I had an "all you can eat" spicy lunch and boy did I eat all I can eat indeed. After wards I noticed my heart was skipping a beat (they call it an irregular heart because the heart races until 2 heart beats collide into 1 giving it the missing beat feeling) every 10 minutes.... then every 5 minutes and then went back up to every 10 minutes then 15 minutes and then every half hour. It's kinda calmed down now but just incase it starts back up again I want to know is this okay? I don't want something to be wrong with be and be taking it so lightly.

I got an ECG done and they said my heart is excellent but I should wait to talk to a doctor which would take about 7 hours since I was at the hospital so I didn't bother waiting around because I felt there's more important people with problems and they should be attended to.

I feel like I have a lot of gas in my chest that I just want to burp out but I get lots of little burps instead. Not a big long one which I crave. Also I have acid indigestion in my throat / chest that keeps coming up everytime I burp. Could this contribute to my palpitation problem? Thanks in advance to those who respond. I appreciate the people who take time out of their busy lives to atleast give some sort of response.

Yahoo doesn't give us the chance to say thank you to the responders but it's people like you that bring comfort to our lives. May God bless you.

What you are experiencing is most likely a premature ventricular contraction better known as a PVC. These are quite normal, even in healthy people. I experience them as well. Most of the time what causes PVC's can be anything from spicy food, stress, hormonal imbalances, vitamin deficiency, not enough sleep etc.

PVC's can also happen because most people who have anxiety have a heightened awareness of what is happening in their body. You take more notice of things that you might otherwise discard as normal such as a heart flutter, palpitation, skipped beat, etc. I find this to be true most of the time when I am experiencing these sensations. My solution to this is to keep myself busy so that I am not thinking about it so much.

I also suffer from frequent indigestion that lasts for hours for the same reason described above. Take some tums, drink a lot of water, and get a good nights rest.

Anxiety is a term that covers many forms of pathological and abnormal fears. It is a relatively permanent state of worry and nervousness, which also occurs in a variety of other mental disorders, and is usually accompanied by compulsive behavior or panic attacks. The yogic practices which helps in alleviating this condition are Surya Namaskara, Shashankasana, Bhujangasana, Paschimottanasana, Shalabhasana, Nadi Shodhana Pranayama. I have a few thoughts about what you've written that I'm hoping will help or at least point you in a useful direction...

Are you still taking the clonazepam? Did your symptoms get worse when you started taking it? Maybe you are having a "paradoxical reaction" to them. See:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradoxical_reaction

If you are not feeling well, it is easy to see why you would become anxious about it. But, it doesn't sound like the root of your problems is a real chemical imbalance (i.e., anxiety). Ask anyone who has suffered with undiagnosed symptoms or a chronic illness. One's "mood" will inevitably be affected. But, these are secondary symptoms as a result of chronicity.

I have read in one of your previous questions that you were prescribed a medication for "acid"? If the hypothesis is GERD/gastritis, make sure you have been tested for h. pylori. It is a simple blood test. The gold standard for a GERD diagnosis is ph monitoring and for gastitis, histopathological biopsies are obtained and analyzed from a esophagoduodenoscopy.

If, by "acid" medication, you mean, a proton pump inhibitor, you should know that they take about 2 weeks to become effective. You may not feel better until then. Do not stop taking them. Sometimes the first proton pump inhibitor you try will not work. You may have to try others. Prevacid 30 mg b.i.d is a good place to start.

You may wish to request a "gastric emptying test" to assess the possibility of gastroparesis:

    http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gastroparesis/DS0...

In any event, prokinetics, like domperidone (a good choice over metoclopramide for it's minimal blood-brain barrier penetration) may provide you with some relief. If you don't have gastroparesis, domperidone (10 mg, tds) may help treat your cited gastroesophageal symptoms by inducing acetylcholinergic increases in lower esophageal sphincter pressure.

Have you had an x-ray of your chest? I was thinking, perhaps, you have a hiatal hernia. Perhaps a sliding haital hernia, if these symptoms are intermittent?

    http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hiatal-hernia/DS0...

I noted in your other Q's, you mentioned your doctor, "rolling her eyes" regarding your symptoms. YOU know there is something wrong. Persist in this endeavour. The problem with MD's is that, all too often, if you don't fit a common mold, YOU are blamed. It takes effort to think of rare etiologies for symptoms and it is often easier to blame you (or, pass you off to a specialist which may, in turn, pass you off to another one). I get the feeling this is what has indeed happened given your anxiety diagnosis, in light of the fact that many anxiety meds have not worked, at least for your "chest/gas" issues. I know how hard it is to "fight" for your health, when you are already not feeling well. Don't give up and be true to yourself. See another doc, if you have to. Find someone who will listen, believe you, and put the pieces of this puzzle together. MD's, in my opinion, are consultants, working for YOU, and should be regarded as such.

    Best wishes and good luck!

BTW: Yahoo does indeed give questioners the opportunity to say thank-you. It is via the choice of Best Answer. Not hinting, just mention this in case you are new to Y!A, or you are, at least, an "infrequent Y!A flyer" ;-).

You should read "The Blood Pressure Solution" (also available in electronic format, watch the video presentation here: http://www.fixbloodpressure.com/ ) It's a very comprehensive step-by-step book that walks you through the natural remedies of high blood pressure. It provides you with a lot of information on what foods to eat, how you can acquire and prepare these foods, how you can change your lifestyle for the better, how to eliminate the toxins from your body, how to reduce stress, how you can check your blood pressure level the correct way etc.

The book is amazing in that it not only lowers your blood pressure without the help of medications; it also aids you in having a life that is healthy, happier, and less stressful. This book chanced my life.

PVC's for an entire year, day after day after day. One day they just stopped.....for 5 months! Then, with no warning they started back up. Every single day now. All day long. Sitting in a chair relaxing and here they go, 2 beats/skip, 50/100 times in a row....on and on......all day long.
