What are the bank charges for? Is it interest on an overdraft balance. Or is it interest AND penalties on an overdraft balance that went over their overdraft limit? That's the only thing I can think of for such high bank charges, in which case there is little to be done but pay the bank bank enough money to bring the bank balance either back within the overdraft limit, or if possible bring the account back into the black entirely.

Since your son-in-law is unemployed, they are going to have to find someone to lend them the money. Friends, family? If there is any valuable property that they don't use, can they pawn it for cash? Or perhaps get a loan secured by their car?

    Good luck.
