How do i remove a stripped bolt?

My car won't start, and i figured out the battery was too dead and got a new one. But i can't get the old battery out because it's bolted by 1 RUSTY, STRIPPED BOLT that just won't budge. I really need my car to work, but i don't want to pay to get it towed and whatever outrageous fees someplace would charge me for 1 bolt. I only have a ratchet set and some pliers. what do i need and what can i do?

Update:

I already put wd-40 on, and a hacksaw won't fit where it is.

  • i assume that youre trying to get the battery retaining triangular piece of metal, or plastic with one bolt through it off. I would soak it with Wd-40 overnite at least then reapply again, before even trying to force it, then, since these are usually in a tight spot, and wisegrips, heat, and hammering are not options, you could go to canadian tire, home depot, or any tool shop/dealer and ask for a striped bolt/stud removing socket, you will need to tell them the approx size of the head, 8mm- 13mm usually, they sell them individually or as a set,and make sure you have the right extension, and ratchet to drive the extractor. hope this helps

put wd-40 on the rusted bolt and let it sit for a couple hours or overnight then try again in the morning

use a ratchey socket that is just a little too small for the bolt then pound it on there via hammer and ur good to go

i just had this problem myself, i found that just hammering the battery loose from the grip if you put wd-40 on it works. just make sure the battery doesnt go flying crack open a spew battery acid every where...trust me i know how much thst sucks
